Fall at Holman Farm

Cory's magic pumpkin patch

See the one on top of the pile with no stem?  I took that one home.

pale yellow love

Why, hello there

tubs of fancy gourds

Laurie gave me enormous bags of Northern Spy, Jonagold, Golden Delicious and Cortland apples, a special pie pumpkin, buttercup and baby Hubbard squash.  She and I discussed our shared love of squash.

Root vegetables with horseradish and sauteed shrimp - Laurie is a such a great cook.  All of the vegetables and herbs are her own home grown.

Roasted red pepper tapanade - sweet and delicious

goodnight Mr. Swallow

There was a dead tree swallow inside one of the bluebird houses we cleaned out for the Winter.  I looked up Tree Swallows in my bird book to learn about them, and my favorite part was the description of their voice, "a cheerful series of liquid twitters."

meet Blackie

A friend from yoga was looking for a home for one of her rabbits, a female named Blackie.  I have long thought of getting a companion for Bunny Lee, so I brought her home today.

She is about the same size as Bunny Lee, and their initial meeting was rocky, with Bunny Lee acting very defensive and scared and trying to fight with Blackie.  I have their cages next to one another so they can get acquainted for a couple of days.

Pucci and Blackie greet each other - she's a really nice rabbit and I am hopeful she and Bunny Lee will become friends.

Pucci Le Pew

Check out Pucci's nose - she got into it with a skunk this morning.  I gave her a bath and am washing everything, but the whole house smells really bad.  She's so gangsta!

Sue Kurry

At the Indian grocery store they sell a pre-mixed khichdi, which is like rice pilaf, a mixture of rice and a few types of lentils - its super delicious

I cooked some up for dinner with potatoes, collard greens and cilantro

chicken little bigger

The chicks at two months old

The feather pattern of the pale yellow chickens reminds me of old pictures of ermine fur coats (see below behind the fancy lady) white tipped with black.
