voodoo

About a week ago I found some strange scat right in the middle of driveway - it turned out to be fox poop.  The fox has been around lately, so no surprise.  But the other day, in the EXACT same spot, was this large dead snake.

the trimming

I had the neighbor kids trim down the forsythia hedge, which was half dead from the harsh winters.  It hasn't blossomed for the past few years, so I hope next year I will see the golden parade once again

found a baby bluebird who had fallen from their birdhouse yesterday - he was very jumpy and the dogs were very interested in him, so  I safely returned him to the house

meet Waboose

Newest member of the Boss Bunny rabbit sanctuary - he came to us from a good home in Detroit who wanted a better home for him.  He had a rough start meeting the other bunnies. so I will keep them separated with chicken wire for a few days.  He is a small, lop eared boy with a very mellow temperament - Waboose has traditional Native American meaning, and I understand it's also a common word for Rabbit

Waboose, the Spirit Keeper of the North position on the Native American Medicine Wheel, is represented by the element of earth. Its mineral is alabaster. Its plant is the sweet grass. Its animal is the white buffalo. The color associated with Waboose is white. The season is winter. The time of day is midnight. The time of life is both the time when we are elders with the snow upon our heads and the time of life when we are newborns coming back into the world. Waboose directly influences all the moons in the northern quadrant

senior jammers

I attended a funeral last weekend, and a trio of senior ladies performed classical music selections - they were excellent, and it's something you rarely see

the funeral was held at the stunning, 50s vintage Estes-Ledley Funeral Home in Lansing.
Here is a telephone closet

Got a huge bolt of oilcloth so the farmers market table has one tablecloth instead of several.  They sent it simply wrapped in heavy duty plastic - LOVE

an uncommon sight

Rudy came in the other morning in rough shape - I think she may have either taken a fall or gotten in a fight.  She was walking slowly, was dirty and cried when I tried to pick her up.  So she slept it off for a day, right beside Mabel.  She is better, back outside and laying in the sun, and eating normally. The two cats generally hate one another, so this was interesting to see.

Stayed up watching another one of those infomercials selling boxed sets of old music - the live music footage is amazing, like this clip from Sly & the Family Stone

Holman seedlings

Power gardener and ultra friend Laurie gave me a box of her home-started vegetables seedlings, as she so generously does each year.  This year's goodies: broccoli, tomatoes, eggplant, brussels sprouts, kale, and collard greens.
