the reward of Clam Lake
I got a letter from the MI Department of Agriculture informing me I was required to attend a meeting regarding milk hauling Monday night in Clam Lake, Michigan. This is about 35 miles South of my farm. I got there and saw my dairy inspector, who told me I actually didn't have to attend, as I haul milk cans, and not fluid milk. I left.
But the evening was not a complete waste of time: I was accompanied by a gigantic rainbow all the way home, at times two of them, side by side. There it was, just for me.

eating the color
Toss any vegetable you like in olive oil, salt & pepper and bake in a 350 oven for about an hour. Roasted vegetables couldn't be easier, more delicious and beautiful

sugared pecans
Rocky's Historic Peanut Company in Eastern Market, a huge spice, nut and candy shop. At the check-[out they have big tubs of their house made sugared almonds, walnuts, pecans, etc, all packaged in little heart-print cones with simple initials on them. Yum!

After the Kraftwerk show we met Gunther, on the left, and Chris Farley with a black eye on the right. They were actually really nice.

some graphic reality of human stupidity
This deer was shot by a bow hunter. He was able to run far enough that he eluded his murderer, but laid down and died a few feet away from my big barn. Unnecessary and barbaric. This was last Friday.
The same scene this morning, a mere 2 days later. Back to nature. I kept his horns.
