meet Tukka

A farmer friend got rid of all of her chickens this week, but had a lonely pet turkey who needed a home.  I have adopted her, and Tukka is the most beautiful, gentle lady - she likes to cuddle, is curious and BIG! She has been hanging close with Roosty Sr., the elder of my two roosters, so I am hoping they strike up a romance

Turkeys lay fewer eggs than chickens, 1-2 per week - they taste like chicken eggs but are larger and very pretty

hot dog tie

I visited the Rainbow Thrift Center in Charlevoix, MI yesterday and as always, found some treasure - like this silk Chicago style hot dog necktie

matching vintage straw hats decorated with weird felt figures modeled by thrifting companion Cammie

The other night I was watching The Shining, and noticed the small painting above the bed in the apartment scene.  Such a small detail, I'm not sure why it caught my eye

Found one very similar at the thrift shop...it's quite a beautiful little oil painting and the piece is larger than it appears in this picture - about a foot wide

eating in bed

This cute little goldfinch tucked his head under his wing and went to sleep in my window bird feeder

before and after

The bathrooms at my farm were not installed until the 1950s, and then renovated in the 1980s.  They are both small, and here are some pictures of the crumbling upstairs bathroom

Note the hole in the tile where the soap holder once was (it just fell off one day) as well as peeling "refinish" on the surface of the tub

New subway tile, hardware, and tub, no more handicap rail, and I went back to a shower curtain instead of  shower door - heaven!

and a new soap holder 😊

migas

The next time you have leftover chips or corn tortillas, fry them up with salsa - this is Mexican Chilaliques, then scramble those with eggs to make Migas - my favorite breakfast ever! I always have these when I visit Mexican Village in Detroit and they are so easy to make at home, plus a great use for left over or stale tortillas
