OK, here's a weird thing: at a certain point in the hike, everything started appearing super bright green, from the plants, the dust on our shoes, even the squirrels. I couldn't figure it out, and other hikers said they experienced it too. A park ranger told me it was the sun. I think it was a mineral in the earth down there that is in the water or something and makes everything phosphorescent green.
